Kristen Galyean, of Claremore, Okla., picked up champion and reserve champion honors in the 2014 Super Stakes Gelding Non-Pro on April 17 in Fort Worth. Riding Im Reydioactive third in the first set, Galyean marked a 217. With ZR One, Galyean was next to last to work in final set and marked a 215.

The 20-horse finals offered a total purse of $46,590. Im Reydioactive (Dual Rey x Kaboomsmal x Peptoboonsmal) earned $3,532 for the win, and ZR One (Peptoboonsmal x That Catomine x High Brow Cat) earned 3,406 with his second-place finish. Five horses were scratched from the finals.

“It’s very shocking,” Galyean said following her sweep of the top two spots. “I don’t know what to think about it, but we’re very excited.”

Going into the finals she expected ZR One to be the horse on top.

“ZR One has been really good for me all year, and he’s just been solid every time we’ve shown,” she explained. “He goes and does his job. We just won Ardmore [Derby Non-Pro]. He marked a 225 – he was awesome – so definitely if I could only ride one, I would probably pick him because I know that he’s going to be there.”

Her 4-year-old sorrel, Im Reydioactive, is just coming back from a bone bruise after getting cast in his stall following the NCHA Futurity in December.

“The Dual Rey that I showed earlier today – I actually won the semis on him and marked a 17,” she adds. “He’s a great horse, and I think that he’s just going to keep getting better. He’s super green. He’s been off since the Futurity. He got a little bit hurt, and we’ve just been letting him rest and get completely healed up. We didn’t want to push things. He’s come here and he’s really stepped up, and I made the finals on both of them. I couldn’t be happier. Today went really well.”
